About a year ago my 04 E (180,000miles)started bottoming about at 60mph. The engine light came on and the code was P2646, rocker arm stuck in off position. After some research I replaced the vvt solenoid and performed an oil change. The engine light went off and all was good. Fast forward to now, almost a year the the day and the same problem ...P2646 code pops up with no other codes. Because cleaning the Vtec solenoid screen is easy and I free fix, I did that first. Code stayed on but problem went away for one day. I decided to order the parts and fix it right. I purchased directly from my local Honda dealer (almost $200 for the solenoid alone).I have a 2003 Element 2WD A/T with 146000 miles. I recently adjusted the valves and performed an oil change because it wouldn't idle properly and was throwing the dreaded P2646 code. The idle cleared up perfectly, found the exhaust valves were tight as hell. I removed the spool valve at this time and cleaned the screen, replaced it, P2646 ...Okay so to add to this set up death to a Honda issue. Becuase I too have been suffering this plaque. Long and short: First time this happened a local oil change place put 10w40 in my Element. Within a mile of the shop it blew P2646 code. Took it to my mechanic, he did a oil test and thats how I know what was put in the car.
