FYI, I settled on using Google Voice. If you are on Android, you are probably tied to the Google world anyway. All you do is claim a number and forward unanswered calls to it. You get alerts and transcriptions really quickly, it works seamlessly and offers many benefits over ATTs so called visual voicemail. Voxist also works pretty well.
