After being bumped up one level, they offered to fix it for $200. Since used 14" T61P sell for about $350 on ebay, Lenovo's initial quoted price for a hinge is clearly highway robbery, and even their negotiated price is absurd for something that is clearly a manufacturing defect that should be covered under warranty.

A new one with a similar spec is around £550 to £600. There are a lot of such problems with the IdeaPad (at least up to Gen 5 - is your model Gen 5 or already Gen 6?). The 2021 L7 series has the improved hinge design that fixed the previous weak hinge problem. Unless you have the 2020 model, otherwise, your L7 shouldn’t have the hinge issue. If you want to replace the upper case, here’s a link to find the appropriate part numbers for all the parts for the laptop. Type Ideapad 330-17IKB in the search by product name search box, select the applicable model variant, (either DK or DM version), then click on Select Commodity > C-cover with keyboard to find all the upper case part numbers.In the bottom left and bottom right corners, you'll see the plate that attaches the hinge to the display assembly. Make sure all these screws, on both sides, are tight enough. The hinge on my trusty old Lenovo Y700 has gotten so tight that every time I open or close it the keyboard flexes dramatically. Some tech dude noticed this when I brought it in for a different issue and just told me not to open or close it but that's not really an option lol.
1 Answer. The hinge is made of metal so you most likely cracked the plastic case and bent to metal hinge or it is possible broke the weak aluminum screws that hold the hinge to the laptop body.
