Right now the side light turns off but the alien logo slowly flashes. Thanks for any help. Mine turn off automatically. Sometimes something running in the background can cause it to stay awake. Try resetting the console before letting it sleep just to see if yours does sleep properly.
Open the AlienFX Lighting and see if Off or Black is listed as Color for Zone 4: Power Button. Note, I am not sure if these AlienFX Lighting changes "apply" when the AW3420DW goes into standby. You should contact Dell/Alienware directly. Updating the BIOS is not something you should take lightly. Loosing power mid update can and most likely will "brick" your motherboard. You should only update your BIOS when your computer is 100% stable, amd ideally conected to a properly sized UPS.
